Summer is over for me. It’s back to being a full-time student for one more year. Here’s a brief look at what I did this summer.

Our dog Leon. We put her to sleep in June. She was sick (and old). I miss her a lot. She always greeted me at the door with excitement, wagging her tail (except where someone had food, then it was just a quick peek around the corner and then back to begging). I cried like a baby at the vet’s office. She was a good friend.
This is Wes, my nephew. He’s four. He stayed with us for a week to attend Vacation Bible School. He loves cars, so we built ramps and stuff outside on the deck for fun.

Wes
Wes, my sister Amy, and I took a trip to Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota. Wes and I walked across the Mississippi River together (the headwaters are at this park). We hiked and rented bikes. I peddled Wes in one of those carts behind my bike. It was hard work going up a hill, but was worth it on the way down. That was a great day!!!
That may be one of the last times I go to that park. Amy and her husband, who live close to the park, are moving to Iowa this fall. I’m sure Iowa has parks but probably nothing as beautiful as the ones in northern Minnesota.
This is Paul Bunyun and Babe the Blue Ox. They live in Bemidji, MN which is also close to where my sister lives. I love how these pictures turn out!
The picture to the right is of Lake Calhoun. It’s located in the Twin Cities. I took a walk around it this summer with my friend Kristen. There are several lakes downtown. Lots of people out sailing, running, swimming. I’m really starting appreciate living in MN.
A picture of my desk. I spent almost 2 months out of my summer break studying statistics. It was not fun – at all. I can’t wait to be done with school in May!
This is dad holding my nephew Jack. He’s 9 months old and will be walking soon. I couldn’t capture a smile – he would smile after the flash went off but would go right back to this expression. He wasn’t feeling very well when he came to visit – it’s hard growing new teeth. He’s fun and very sweet – I love babies.

I’ve decided my favorite tree is now the birch. The pine still is a close second, right up there with the maple. There’s a grove of birch trees along a path where I run. For some reason, I feel really happy when I see this little group of trees. I don’t know if it’s the shape of the tiny silvery leaves, the color of the bark, or just the time of day I run past and the lighting is perfect…I just like them. They make me happy.

I love birches, too! And we’re also saying goodbye to summer here in Vermont. It all goes so quickly! Happy Autumn!
